Response to government crackdown on tax avoidance

Callcredit Information Group welcomes the government's announcement that it intends to introduce new rules on tax avoidance for those companies wishing to tender for government contracts.

The rules expected to be announced this week by Francis Maude, the Cabinet Office Minister responsible for government's contracts, and Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury are intended to ensure that the government can block awarding contracts to companies that use elaborate schemes to avoid paying the correct levels of tax.

Andrew Davis, Director of Public Sector, Callcredit said: "This is an important step in the right direction to ensure that all companies wishing to enter in to procurement contracts with the government do so on a level playing field. The current situation is unacceptable and does not sit comfortably with those companies who do pay the correct levels of tax."
