Callcredit supports the Scottish Legal Aid Board to help tackle fraud

SLABLeading experts in counter-fraud and debtor tracing, Callcredit Information Group is helping the Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB) to ensure publicly-funded legal aid is only provided to those who are entitled to it.

Through a three-year contract Callcredit will provide due-diligence eligibility checks on individuals that have applied for legal aid through their ThreeSixty Online product, the most in-depth counter-fraud and debtor tracing tool currently available in the UK public sector.

It will help SLAB to verify an individual's personal financial eligibility for legal aid through a range of checks, including identification, address, credit/indebtedness, bank accounts and associations.  These checks will help the Board to ensure that only those who meet the statutory requirements gain access to publicly-funded legal assistance.

Lee Birch, Business Development Manager, Callcredit Information Group said: "We are pleased to be helping the Scottish Legal Aid Board to identify fraud and help those individuals who qualify for legal assistance.  Our ThreeSixty Online system will help them to detect fraud and assist with collection rates by harnessing our credit bureau data via a single slick and intuitive interface."

Joe Kelly, Head of Civil Legal Assistance at the Scottish Legal Aid Board said: "Legal assistance is designed to help individuals on low or modest incomes to gain access to justice if they are unable to pay for it on their own. It is important for us to be able to assess the eligibility of applications to ensure that those who are entitled to legal aid have access to the service and that we identify fraudulent applications.

"Over the years we have worked hard to prevent fraud and Callcredit's ThreeSixty Online tool will certainly help us in our counter-fraud and debt collection activities."
